Ditto here -- probably no more than a dozen or so fonts have
cuased me problems due to too too many path elements (as far as I
could tell), and usually only a few glyphs in each font.

No. General stability of the font manager, and greater tolerance
of (or, more usefully, reporting specific faults in) dodgy fonts,
rather than crashing unexpectedly, would be a much higher
priority.
