Not really...
As far as I can ascertain (Link tool) aside from the link that exists when
a page is full and a new one starts, and so on down the document, there
are no other links in the chapter.
Those are the ones causing the problem. They create auto-linked frames
from the auto-linked master page.
From David's reply, it looks as though deleting the text from a point
before the split might allow deletion of the pages containg the now empty
frames. Alternatively it might be necessary to dselete everything visible
in the pages before they can be deleted - in fact with auto-create on, the
pages should disappear automagically once there is nothing in them.
