It's also possible to tell PayPal the details of a bank account and have
them debit that immediately, which - once it's set up - gives you the
certainty that a payment really has been made more or less instantly. This
process is done via a DD instruction, which - of course - you can cancel if
you need to.

There are two things about PayPal which irritate me. The first is that in
the emails they send they continue to claim that I can tell those are
genuinely from them because they address me by my name. PayPal don't seem
to understand that this is not a secret.

The second is that I'd really prefer to be able to keep my PayPal login
credentials completely secret to the rest of the world. But I can't because
one half of them is "my PayPal email address" which is known by all sorts of
recipients of my money and (of course) by anyone who needs to send me money.
As a consequence I change this address pretty frequently. If I'm going to
use PayPal to send money to some organisation that's previously spammed an
older PayPal address I often use the PayPal option that lets you send money
without being logged in, even though it's more hassle to do so.
