somatics & technology
conference 2012

University of Chichester, UK. June 22/23

Soma and techne
So you think new technologies aren't compatible with the ethos of somatic
practices? That new media only designate new means of communication, or that
virtual interfaces necessarily imply the abandonment of the physical body?
Where and how are things changing? What do healing therapies, psychosomatics
and new dance techniques all have in common with new media?
How do we define a body-oriented approach to technology now ? What do terms
such as embodiment, interaction, haptics, the "extended/augmented" body
actually convey? How does the body, and therefore somatics, inform
technological interfaces in the arts in the 21st century? Alternatively could
technology generate new forms of somatic expression?
Come and join us for an exciting 2 days of exchange and exploration!
The final date for submissions for papers, artworks and workshops is immanent:
this Saturday April 28th! Confirmation of acceptance of proposal will be given
by May 15th and a full programme to be released by the beginning of June.
