Dear all,

Just a few words.

I find this discuss very interesting for professional event . I¹m also
surprised. It seams that there is a little confusion about what we are
talking, professional meetings or festivals for everybody.

If it is professional meetings, I think that the structure of the meeting
organized by Johannes Birringer in Nottingham is the model. But I think also
that each meeting (professional or festival) must find his own way. Why
search a formula, pre or post, symposium. We have only to find the best
organisation for each project (and it will be different for each) in the
frame of both discuss with the artists and specifics objectives of the
event.

If it is a festival, we have to remember what said Jean-Luc Godard at the
tribune of the Festival de Cannes : - "Good evening, professionals of the
profession !". A festival is not an event for the specialists of the
speciality, it is for everybody and we have not to conceive it with
professional concerns (even if there are professional meetings, workshops...
in it, ). A festival, is an artistic, social and for the best ones, a
political event. Its goals have not to be defined with artistic professional
preoccupations. We have to think to the Greek theatre ... If it is important
that audience meets artists, it is for these reasons.

If there is, from 8 to 10 years, professional meetings (symposia,
workshops...) in many festivals it is most of the time for economical
reasons and, most of the time, it does not help at all audience to meet
artists !

I know that this e-mail is provocative in the frame of these exchanges but
it seems sometimes important to remind some basic things.

But, perhaps, I did not understand nothing.

Best.
