The School of Performance & Cultural Industries is relocating to a
brand-new, purpose-built theatre and studio complex in the heart of the
Leeds city campus from August 2007. These bursaries offer the
opportunity to study in a lively, research-led environment, and to be a
part of the growing cultural relationship between the University and the
city of Leeds, evident in such developments as our partnership with
Opera North.

The School of Performance & Cultural Industries, in association with the
Sport & Physical Activity Service, is offering a PhD in Dance with
teaching employment opportunities.

As a Russell Group university with Dance undergraduate and postgraduate
programmes, the University of Leeds has a unique perspective on dance in
higher education. Students are taught by staff engaged in a variety of
exciting research projects, and there are many opportunities to get
involved in discussions, activities, and events. Applications are
invited from candidates with a strong research interest in Dance and a
desire to develop a career within the university sector. Proposals for
practice-led research are welcome.

There is a guaranteed minimum teaching timetable to provide financial
support whilst studying. Further teaching opportunities will be
available according to the candidate's skills and experience. The
successful candidate will train to be an Arts Award Advisor and will
work with students in the dance studio, the seminar room, and in
community environments. There are a number of innovative applied
programmes being developed by the School and Service in partnership and
this PhD will have an opportunity to be integral to their development.
There may be additional openings to develop new programmes in graduate
entrepreneurship with partner organizations. Research studies related to
dance applications in the community may be particularly appropriate to
the teaching opportunities available. Further information on the School
can be found at http://www.leeds.ac.uk/paci/ and on the Sport & Physical
Activity Service at www.leeds.ac.uk/sport

Deadline 20th July 2007
