The performance "Denizen" is influenced by Armenian Cinema masterworks by Sergei Parajanov and Artavazd Peleshian (specifically by Peleshians film "Seasons" (1979)). It is an homage to Armenia, one of the oldest civilizations in the world. Images appearing in "Denizen" were captured last fall in the Northern Lori region of Armeniain some of the exact locations where "Seasons" was shot.
Formally, "Denizen" is a work that uses film as a starting point. In the performance, five distinct personalities - denizens - mold movement, light, images, sets and sounds to orchestrate a cycle of poetic haikusto transmit the mythical and ritualistic qualities of a land and its people.
