Haein Song invites to the premiere of her performance 'Neo-Kut' - presented
on 16th November, at Artaud Performance Centre, Brunel University London, UK
'Neo-Kut' is an immersive performance ritual created by her practice-based PhD
research; exploring the marriage between digital technology(especially digital
projection) and Korean Kut-- an old shamanic ritual that has been in existence
for 5000 years and is still in effective use in communal gatherings and
healings in Korea.
The performance is based on the collaborative research with a master shaman
Soon-sil Seo (a head of Jeju-Keun-Kut, the 13th intangible heritage of
Jeju,Korea) and the Kut performance group MARO.
Since 2014, MARO and Haein have made several performances based on her
research; they now off a new interpretation of Kut to embrace all the sorrows,
joys and wishes with the language of the old ritual and new digital
technology. It is very significant that the very renowned shaman Soon-sil Seo
herself joins to dance and will sing.
