“Show Trial” Ignores Hong Kong’s Freedoms Ottawa Falun Gong To Hold Vigil at Chinese Embassy Hong Kong Kowtows to Beijing in So-Called “Trial” of Swiss Falun Gong Practitioners Ottawa - Falun Gong practitioners across Canada will hold rallies/vigils in Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver today to unveil the truth surrounding Hong Kong authorities’ accusations of “obstruction of sidewalk” by Swiss and Hong Kong Falun Gong practitioners. Video footage documents police brutality in the face of the peaceful, legal appeal on the part of the practitioners. On March 14, 2001, four Falun Gong practitioners from Switzerland and 12 from Hong Kong held a peaceful sit-in appeal and hunger strike in front of the Chinese Liaison Office in Hong Kong in order to express disapproval of Chinese President Jiang Zemin's orders to shoot Falun Gong practitioners. Several hours into the appeal, at the request of the P.R.C.'s Liaison Office, Hong Kong policemen arrived at the site of the appeal, held a press conference and proceeded to violently take the 16 practitioners into custody. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began in China three years ago, Beijing has applied heavy pressure to Hong Kong to adopt its repressive policy against Falun Gong. Protests and appeals by Falun Gong practitioners have been markedly peaceful in nature both inside China and abroad. The police and legislators in Hong Kong, however, have gradually shown signs of adopting Beijing's oppressive stance on the practice. Falun Gong practitioners call on the western world and the Hong Kong people to stand up for justice. Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Belief and Freedom of Assembly are at stake. Please come and learn more Saturday afternoon. Video and photos of scene available on line.
