As you have heard over the last couple of weeks, we will be holding a
contest during our regular meeting on Tuesday, March 13. I will be your
Contest Chair! I will need a few things from all of you over the next week
or so to prepare for our event.
In order to compete in the International Speech Contest, you will need to
have completed 6 speeches by the time you reach the area level. For
example, if you have completed 5 speeches by the time of the club
competition, and you win, we can work with you to make sure that you
complete your 6th speech in time for the area competition. The time
requirement of the speech is 5-7 minutes – similar to most other manual
speeches we have delivered.
If you would like to compete in the Table Topics portion of our
competition, all you need to do is let me know! You do not need to meet any
pre-requisites.
I encourage you to read through the roles of the contestants in the
rulebook (attached). Not all of these rules will apply at the club level,
but I suggest reading through to get a good idea of what the role entails
before volunteering. You will also see mention of other roles necessary for
a successful speech competition. Please review them, and I will send
another email about these roles at a later date.
I would like to hear from everyone via email by the end of Tuesday’s
meeting (for which I will not be present) if you would like to compete in
either of the sessions. If you have not done so at that point, use that
opportunity to ask our experienced Toastmasters any questions about the
expectations of the participants or the contest itself.
