VMware ESX Server Version 2.5.3 Upgrade Patch 3 and ESX 2.0.2 Upgrade Patch 1


Upgrade Patches for VMware ESX Server Version 2.5.3 3 and ESX 2.0.2


Dear VMware Customer,

We are pleased to announce that VMware ESX Server Version 2.5.3 Upgrade Patch 3 
and ESX 2.0.2 Upgrade Patch 1 are now available.

These patches are a no-cost update for ESX Server Support and Subscription 
(SnS) 
contract holders.

In addition, a BusLogic driver disk and supplemental RPM for ESX 2.5.3 that 
enable support for RedHat Enterprise Linux 4.0 Update 3 are also available now.

The following issues are addressed with ESX Server version 2.5.3 Upgrade Patch 
2:
- SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 9 SP3 guests unable to boot in SMP mode 
and            generate the monitor error bug: BUG F (140):1913 bugNr-18415. 
- Potential HBA device name change after patch application on scripted 
installation. 
- Virtual machine running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 in SMP mode hang under 
heavy memory       usage is corrected. 

This patch also enables support for the IBM DS4700 Fiber Channel storage array.

The following issues are addressed with ESX Server version 2.0.2 Upgrade Patch 
1:
-An unauthorized user could potentially construct a specially crafted URL that 
may change a known   user's password. This vulnerability is fixed in this patch 
release.
-A local user could view potentially sensitive information. This vulnerability 
is fixed in this patch release.
-Traffic shaping configurations do not appear for newly created virtual 
machines on ESX Server     2.0.2 hosts. (KB 2119)
-New virtual machines created using VirtualCenter cannot be powered on.(KB 2119 
& 2113). 
-User specified parameters are not applied to virtual machines created using 
SDK client.(KB         2113.)

ESX Server 2.5.3 Upgrade patch 3 can only be applied to build 22981 or later. 
Run vmware -v to display version and build information for your system.
Please DO NOT apply this patch on SunFire X4100 or X4200 servers.

ESX Server 2.0.2 Upgrade patch 1 can only be applied to ESX Server 2.0.2 build 
23922 or later.
Run vmware -v to display version and build information for your system.
