Calling all CSEB Ontario Members re monitoring and EA: For all Ontario members, please stay tuned for EMAN coordinator contacts. We will post these shortly if you wish to take the initiative to get involved and learn monitoring techniques through existing EMAN projects around the province. As our time this spring is running short to accomplish setting up a new EMAN forest monitoring plot for the GTA Chapter, we will postpone this activity until the fall, after summer holidays. We now have partnership support from York Region Forestry and Brian Craig, EMAN Ontario Coordinator, who are interested in participating. We will set up a fall monitoring techniques training session for our members at the forest and try out our techniques afterwards. Stay tuned! In lieu, I am offering a 'case study' walking tour of the Oak Ridges Moraine in Richmond Hill to provide an overview of both infamous cases: the EA for the Bayview extension and the OMB Hearing on the moraine, including the final outcome of the unusual provincial Land Swap deal. The case of the Threatened Jefferson salamander will be highlighted as a Species at Risk. If anyone is interested in attending this afternoon walking tour on Sunday, June 22nd, 2003, at 3:00 pm, please RSVP me at nhelferty@xxxxxxxxxx or call at 416-460-2460. I anticipate the tour will take no more than 1.5 hours. I will only conduct this tour if I get RSVPs back from anyone interested. It is also Lake Wilcox Fun Day so come up to Sunset Beach Park in Oak Ridges to watch our local Dragonboat Race on the lake earlier if you wish. I am participating and anticipate I'll be done racing by 2:00pm, if we keep on schedule. (Our team is looking for 3 additional men, so if you're interested, contact me.) For the tour, we will meet at Sunset Beach Park (South Parking Lot entrance on Bethesda Road) and walk south around Lake Wilcox down the old Bayview extension. Park onsite at Sunset Beach Park (south or north parking lot) located at the east end of Lake Wilcox, on Sunset Beach Drive, east off Yonge Street (south of King Road) in Oak Ridges. Alternatively, take the Newmarket GO bus up Yonge from Finch Station and get off at Sunset Beach Drive in Oak Ridges. Local York Region transit is sporadic, but available; the walk is about 20 minutes to the beach otherwise. Call my cell phone at 416-460-2460 if you get lost or will be late! Hope to see you all there! Natalie Helferty GTA Chapter Chair *********************************** Check our webpage for more information: //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/webpage?webpage_id=cseblist
