Hi John,
    When you say the latest, what exactly do you mean.
If your after the latest 'STABLE' version of FreeBSD then that's FreeBSD 
4.9. It won't support things like ataraid and acpi but it's rock solid.
If your after more 'bleeding edge' FreeBSD then as Brian mentioned, 
that's due out around the 17-18th of January. That will support acpi, 
ataraid and a lot of new hardware, but it's still got lots of bugs. (I 
can't even install the RC2 - Release Candiate 2 on my machine at home - 
4.9 runs fine ).

I'm at Para Hills so let me know and I can drop around either - you'll 
just have to wait for 5.2 though.
