500-plus students walked out of 11 New Mexico high schools yesterday to protest the PARCC test. Over 100 stood outside Albuquerque High and Highland High; 400 more marched along highways from Rio Grande HS and South Valley Academy to join student protesters at Atrisco Heritage Academy. Protests also at schools including Del Norte, Volcano Vista, Sandia, and in other New Mexico towns including Rio Rancho, Moriarty and Las Cruces. The way was paved by protests in Albuquerque schools last week, organized via social media in the space of a few days. Lesson: We need mass action by educators, students and parents, and teachers unions in the lead,to stop the high stakes testing madness! See article and pix from the Albuquerque Journal
