Dear John Young & Colleagues,
Hasn't encryption been a "con" since it was first invented?

Well said. And could be said of the weird mania of "national
security."

No doubt Lao Tzu or some bebearded sage said that long ago.
But was that sage saying a con of cons? Outwitting is vaunted as
more powerful than armaments. But outwitting is also whistling
in the dark listening to a screaming missile incoming.

A bumper sticker cautioned all security is faith-based, stuck
on the Volkswagen of an atheist preacher targeted by an
unbraked oil tanker, the overworked driver snoozing in the
sleeper.

Then the drones, ah, the glorious unmanned drones, angels
of death of the deeply faith-based. Here in NYC, they are
known as property developers lusting for homes of the poor.
