I am almost struck dumb...but not quite...
it is the cheapest...:-) £25 for phone line and fast fibre of...30 megs
(sometimes) on a two year contract, though its quality is so poor and
variable, that they daren't take one to court. Security is crap...but
so it is everywhere...It keeps shutting down and slowing up, through a
system called call gapping. A nightmare for the GCHQ, CIA and NSA who
demand instant connections and reliability, so that they can defeat
terrorism and crime in real time.
After care service comes from an entity called a Call Centre which
speaks unbreakable encryptionesed English...based in Scotland I
think...but who knows these days... I was originally with a paying ISP
called screaming.net. One of the first in the UK which used a B.T.
phone line to get access to the internet. Monthly bills could be as much
as £200 then, due to the service dropping out, too many customers
sharing one line. Then it was taken over by World on Line, then by
Tiscali, went through an Italian job, got unbundled, and eventually
Talktalk acquired it for a song....it has got worse (though cheaper)
ever since....
Person in charge of the company knew more about riding tame horses than
she did the wild technicalities of the internet, but was made into a
Dame by the Queen for her services to industry, before the big security
breach, when all the customers had their personal data stolen by
hackers. Took them months to notice, then to tell the customers and
then to fix it, not sure it is fixed yet, neither are they, but they
think so, and keep assuring us so. The now retired CEO lives amongst
the Cotswold crowd of the previous Prime Minister...some say she got the
job through networking...ha ha...the plebs have very poor internet there
due to the rural nature and country life style, hence the horse riding,
and the rich use satellite technology to overcome the problem, which
saves on putting in fibre optic cables for the peasants and plebs.
