What policies do unite Republicanism these days? What is
Republicanism? Do they have any single policy which unites them...apart
from a cup of tea or creationism and money; opposing anything which
sniffs of Democrat...have they all become independent Republicans, sort
of...and vikki verki...unless it is is Trumpism and Clinton-ism. The
exposition of human rights of course, is the mainstay of US
democracy...the support for which makes the USA world leaders in
everything...except mistakes, hubris, peace mongering, and not selling
arms to dogmatic torturing regimes and liberation armies, in the name of
Christian charity and democracy.
A bit like the UK really, since Brexit came along and screwed up the
works. I have never seen anything like it, the splits and divisions in
the main political parties are quite remarkable. We most certainly are
at a crossroads. Unfankling the mess that is EU regulation and laws, is
not going to be quite so easy as it was made out...Introducing a general
bill of Repeal of EU laws, by incorporating them into English Law is
highly likely to founder, particularly in Scotland. Opting out of the
European Court of Justice is fraught with difficulties: who will decide
on whether UK goods and services qualify. Border and Immigration
Controls, fishing rights, EU and UK citizen rights, in each entity.
Customs and Excise controls, to name but a few.
Separating out all those networks of I.T. and laws and regulations, and
directives and Orders in Council, which have grown up over our
membership of the EU is going to be extremely difficult to undo,
particularly, when the state of the UK governments' IT is in very poor
shape...apart from GCHQ, MI5 and MI6 of course, they have got the best
surveillance in the world, and plenty of staff and spies so that they
can deal with international terrorism. I wonder if we could use their
IT as a sort of "dual use" kind of thing, to help save the rest of the
governments IT. so that we can leave the EU smoothly. All those
databases and storage facilities could come in useful. I must remember
to suggest it to Mrs. May, when I see her at the coming Conservative
Party Conference...but maybe she will be too busy...trying to save her
skin...I mean...Britain, holding out her hand to Mr. Trump to steady the
international alliance between the US and the UK.
Trying to win an election on Brexit and introducing Tory policies on
cutting back on education, the National Health Service and social
services, and social welfare for the elderly, backfired, and cut their
majority, making them weaker in the EU, and the opposition parties
stronger. Theresa and her advisers, screwed things up really good a
proper, and lost themselves a lot of time too. Hard Brexit or soft
Brexit, more like no Brexit at all. Like Trumps Mexican funded wall, a
mere whiff and whim.
