see Gene Sharp on url: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_SharpFor an interesting opener on the subject. I remember the Aldermaston marches very well, participated myself and with family and friends in the 1960s and 70s. A coalition of hundreds of peace groups, political parties and Uncle Tom Cobbley an all...plenty of show, long walks through the countryside, mass campaigns, sit ins, sit downs, petitions, violent and non-violent, legal and illegal activities, but CND never accomplished its main aim, which was unilateral removal of nuclear weapons. It did, however have a big influence in exposing secret nuclear weapons sites. The middle classes and stockbrokers of England who mostly live South of London were most upset to find out that their properties lay on the main road routes for the dispersal of nuclear missiles. Greenham Common didn't last too long after that, but new technology came along. Moved the stuff to Scotland after that.
