That is likely the case. Assange went through the same transformation
from the personal, with its disarming and charming idiosyncracies,
to the grandiloquent with its numbing and off-putting speaking to
the masses. So did Obama, as did many others.

I assume that is the effect of professional speechwriters who
consult manuals of speechwriting, Bartlett's Quotations, famous
orators, and audience ratings bibles.

All of them become bores eventually, some quite soon, at least
in public presentations, and by then are in the clutches of PR and
image specialists, ghost writers, editors, publishers, lawyers,
scholars and foundation hustlers who increasingly taxidermy
notorious figures for public adoration or loathing, thence to
become stone and bronze statues, curios in tourist shops,
wax figures for Madame. Or head shot like so many for
becoming too appealing to remain alive and disruptive of
popularity with scandal, obnoxious behavior, insane outbursts,
abuse of family and acolytes, disabled by drugs, entrapped
by honeypots.

All those downsides of fame are fast-forwarding for Snowden
must faster than for Assange, and certainly not as slow as
prolonged torture of Manning.

Thus it should be no surprise Snowden sounds psychologically
over-determined, automaton-like, trapped in highly scripted
role ever since ensnared by Poitras, Greenwald and Asssange,
and more so by those capitalizing on these victims themselves
stunted by dreams of glory postponed, then suddenly come
true. As said to NYT's Peter Maas by the incarcerated by
fantasy, it's "life-changing."

Snowden is simply media savvy; his communications and message tightly
controlled. this is evidenced repeatedly by his actions in dealings
with personal attacks, parental interference, media misstatements,
etc.

this is a high stakes game; he is playing for high stakes...

(you and i are not privy to his personal communications, of course!)
