Further to the previous posting below. Equifax has 44 million UK customers,
and, according to the Data Protection Commissioner, under the Data Protection
Act, it doesn't need to even bother to report the breach to those of us who are
affected. The UK government, just like the US seems to think that its
bureaucracy are impervious to data breaches and that private data is of
absolutely no consequence to the individual, it is only the banks and
institutions who suffer from data theft. And of course, those very
institutions are always reassuring us that our data is safe and secure with
them and that they go out of their way to protect it.
Ah! Well! Back to tidying up the home garden, it is amazing the weeds which
have grown up through my lovely lawn and flower beds, with this crazy weather.
All due to human induced global warming, I suppose...I must cool myself
down...and...eat less meat...:-)

Of course if one does not use credit facilities, then one has no need to
use credit reference agencies. Or, at least that used to be the
argument in the "good" old days. However, one cannot avoid using them
in todays' world, because the banks insist on it, and it is extremely
difficult to get by on using cash only these days.
So now hundreds of millions of us have to suffer anxiety and wait for
months upon the likes of Equifax to get around to putting in patches on
their software...if they ever do, and telling us what bits of our
private information have been compromised; and they even tried to limit
our rights of redress, by attempting to prevent us from taking them to
court and being forced to use their arbitration instead. What is the
world coming to? I have always been taught that the Capitalist way of
doing things is the most efficient and economic way of running society,
because it allows for a free market in goods and services, and yet, here
we have a multi-billion pounds international company which cannot keep
your private data safe and secure, and where governments refuse to
introduce consumer and privacy legislation which protects our rights,
and makes them responsible. Isn't it about time that we got some
legislation put through our national parliaments which bring those
international and national companies to boot and make them responsible
for the mess which they keep getting us into, instead of treating our
private information and data as if it were of no consequence and a mere
financial tool for them to take more of our money?
