Over 1,000,000 people have now signed a petition that Trump should have
his invitation to come on a state visit to the UK, cancelled.
It states: "Donald Trump should be allowed to enter the UK in his
capacity as head of the US Government, but he should not be invited to
make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her
Majesty the Queen." I can't understand why he isn't very popular, he is
so full of bon homie and jocular and enthusiastic. He might not pay his
bills and expect others to do it for him, but at least he puts American
first.
I think that people are concerned that he he might crack the Queens
fingers with a handshake or inadvertently induce a heart attack by
clapping her on the back when he meets her, in one of his famous
"strokes". Also, the prospect of a Trump Tower right next to Buckingham
Palace might be putting her off. He is not scheduled to visit the US
Embassy, but is going to stay at the US ambassadors house in Regents
Park. A lovely, isolated spot, and a beautiful building, just the ticket
for a president, no demonstrators can get near it.
Not like that dump of a new embassy which is cluttering up the South
Thames embankment, with all its fancy security and spying communications
stuff, what an architecturally horrible building, reminds me of the old
Soviet Architecture in Moscow. The old one was much nicer...with its
big eagle on the top; and easier to demonstrate outside. How well I
remember all those anti-War demonstrations, against the US war against
Vietnam. We used to fill the square...but to no avail, the tiny
Vietnamese people beat the shit out of the mighty US anyway, and they
had to leave in the end. The massacres and mass bombing and the
chemical warfare were of no avail, and Communism in Vietnam died out on
its own little ownio, despite the Domino Theory which was prevalent at
the time. All those people killed and maimed on both sides, all those
atrocities by both sides, and for what purpose...oil, gas, gold, natural
resources. They could have been gotten peaceably. At least a trade war
is better than a real war.
