Purple is the rarest for now, think there are better but you only get those in
new game+
This game is not open like dark souls where you can wander into an area you are
not ready for.
Its linear missions that unlock one after the other. You are always where you
are supposed to be.
At most if you feel under leveled then do the sub-missions.
Yea the stuff on the floor is players who died. Some of them are not tho and
placed by the developers.

Its all ass. Think of it in diablo terms.
You just hit level 10 or something. In 20 levels everything you are wearing
will be useless.
How the fuck is the Ball and chain guy an optional boss that you unlocked by
doing side mission if its your 1st Mandatory boss in the game outside of the
silly tutorial. Hes the easymode starting boss.
Just do the main and side mission until he unlocks.

Onmyo is magic
You will see depending on what stats you level you will get Magic and Ninjitsu
points.
The same place where you get new techniques for you weapons there are Ninja and
Magic tab where you learn those skills.
Magic was OP when the game came out. Not sure if that has changed in the
updates.
For leveling up your gear you mostly need to find new/better ones.
The blacksmith lets you soul match gear to higher levels but the cost becomes
unreasonably after 1 or 2 attempts. (You destroy a high level item to raise
the level of an low level item)
You generally do it once before needing to find a new item.
Set gear you will start finding at some point.
If you do all/most of the optional missions on the 1st Map you will get an
amazing optional boss fight.
He drops pieces of a really nice set.
You can access the tutorials in the dojo on map where you select missions.
