London, New York, Tokyo, Oslo, Singapore etc are outliers but in general I
agree.  Our property and food is very cheap, but I don't see it staying like
that forever because of other factors like the interest rate etc.  I mean
Germany has very expensive property, their long term interest rate is something
silly like 0.5%, while we're on about 9% and looking at potentially 3 more
hikes this year.  So while our property remains comparatively cheaper, it
doesn't necessarily mean it's more affordable.
Bleh.  Enough doom and gloom.  I'll have to adjust my budgets again and take it
from there.

To be fair, it's the same in many countries overseas.  "Working class" people
in Singapore live a good life, but many of them will tell you they can't afford
to travel because it's simply too expensive.  They pay a lot for their clean,

Problem is in Cape Town is that we don't get the same value for our money that
they do overseas.  Not by a long shot.
But where we've got the mountains and beaches so fuck Singapore :p

We have it good for now, but Cape Town is becoming a sort of play ground for
tourists and for the rich.  At least where I'm living now.  I don't even know
if there are any South Africans who stay in my block any more, besides a dude
whose family owns a popular food chain, and another guy who's a jizzillionaire.
People are beginning to realize that the stuff we take for granted here comes
with a hefty premium overseas.  I mean, R190 for a very mediocre curry at the
Waterfront?  Are they serious?
So we ask people how they justify their prices.  Their answer?  "Well everyone

It just becomes too expensive to travel, and it means staying here is just
becoming too expensive.
I was planning a trip in May.  Before Zuma fired Nene the tickets costed R9000.
One week later it was at R13000.  Today it's R15000.
The property of my place went up by about 40% since I bought it.  But the rand
also devalued against the dollar (and pound, and euro) by 50%, which means I
lost a lot.  And not just there, but other investments as well.

TBH, it won't be very useful to you unless you want to learn SQL and don't have

You can do most things in Excel, but sometimes it can be useful to randomly
check things if you have a multiple sets of related data.  But this implies you
need to know a bit of SQL that will allow you to do more advanced things than
what you can do in Excel.  Which usually means it's not worth learning...
Random example:

I copy-pasted the data from here to SQLFiddle.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_income
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_and_dependencies_by_population
This allows me to check various things, like if there's a correlation between
Electoral Votes and Income Per Capita in the states.
http://sqlfiddle.com/#!9/e5172/5<http://sqlfiddle.com/#%219/e5172/5>
So as a Bull-headed Politician who believes in free-market Crapitalism and
pseudo-scientific social science, I infer that PerCapitaIncome is positively
correlated with Intelligence.  I also notice that Connecticut has a reasonable
amount of political influence, but they seem to have a knowledgeable
population.  So instead of wasting my time and campaigning there where people
will obviously see through my bullshit, I'd instead opt to visit Oklahoma
instead which has similar influence over the electorate, but has dumber
constituents.
