Lucas's thoughts on the new Star Wars have been known for some time now;
not that it matters. If anything, his opinions are ironically laughable,
given his claim that Star Wars was never "all about special effects and
space battles". He would do well to weigh his own words.
While I agree with the statement (which is one of the reasons why I also
feel that no modern-day Star Wars movie will ever surpass the originals),
Lucas is hardly in a position to question the creative direction of the new
movies, especially considering that he was solely responsible for the
abysmal tripe that is Episodes 1, 2 and 3: all of which are special
effects-laden pieces of shit with shoddy dialogue and questionable acting
throughout; not to mention; a mostly forgettable plot that is undeniably
contrived and horribly uninspired.
Lucas helped give birth to one of the most amazing, influential cinematic
experiences of all time with the original trilogy, and that alone is worthy
of respect. That being said, he shouldn't try to pass himself off as some
kind of knowledge-base regarding "the appropriate way to direct Star Wars"
when he lost sight of what made the original movies so memorable a long
time ago.
