Depends on what they change and how
I dont personally feel remakes should stay super faithful... if they do
something stupid then I have a problem.
But I guess what somebody would consider "stupid" depends on the person.
Anybody know how old or "new" Major was to her body in the Gits anime movie?
They are possibly doing origin stuff or flashbacks.
Or when Batou got his cybernetic eyes. Cause there are scenes in the trailer
where he does not have them yet.
But so far nothing in the trailer made go "ag wtf are you doing!" yet.

Not talking about better or worse.
I'm just saying its common sense to be as faithfull as possible to the
original especially if it's anime to live action.
If not then do something totally original.
The jump from cartoons to real people is all the defamiliarisation anyone
should need.
If more needs to be changed then just call it something else.

Defamiliarisation can go take a shit.
The people who want memberberries want exactly that and new people don't need
any defamilidingdong.

Yup. It's called defamiliarisation.
Take something people are familiar with and alter it just enough to
differentiate it from what people expect. Defamiliarisation is an essential
aspect of any art form. Keeps things 'novel'. There's more to it than that but
that's the simple explanation.
Can't say l agree with what they're doing when it comes to live action GITS
though. There's really no need for it IMO.

Obviously leave out technically impossible stuff but why all the pointless
drivel replacing the og good shit.

I watched that trailer.
The remix does suck and I also don't get what they are doing with the story.
Seems like they're gonna do the old hollywood move of injecting some tired old
trope instead of highlighting what made the original good.
The major didn't get all softcock and existentialist,
She chilled on her boat in her onnies drinking beer.

GITS' manga plot isn't that mindblowing TBH. It's basically Blade Runner.
What made the movie great was the overall production. I don't think the new
movie is gonna nail the aesthetic, but they probably have something else in
mind.
The setting of the GITS movie feels like a Hong Kong that is only starting to
"grow up". Post-dystopian is one way I've heard it described. The buildings
are still old, there's graffiti everywhere. You can see the rust stains
running down the walls etc. The new movie looks too sterile. Also don't like
this whole "who am i" plot device because one of the things I've always liked
about the Major was that they didn't really go into that too much, and she
doesn't really GAF either. She just goes out and catches the bad guys. The
rest of Section 9 are far more philosophical and reflective than the Major.
Overall, GITS:SAC has a better story. But like with many classics, GITS is
better in terms of it's production value compared to what was available at the
time. I doubt we'll ever see a good 1080p+ version of it soon.

Perfect Blue
Went into this expecting nothing. Came out amazed. Loved this movie and
pretty much everything Satoshi Kon made afterwards.
It had the same similarities between itself made and the Black Swan movie.
With some scenes being "copied" frame for frame apparently etc.
Very similar themes and setting with performance pressure in show business etc.
Cant comment on the details since I havent actually watched Black Swan.
I recommend Perfect Blue to anybody who hasnt seen it.

They dont seem to be doing the nipple thing so unless she is getting upgraded

Not sure what age its rated for.
Also I dont give Gits 1 a meh... I liked and and thought it was good. Its
just that I was prepared at the time to get my mind blown due to hype and
people recommending it everywhere.
Was expecting 10 going out. Felt like an 8 going out.
If I watched 7+ years earlier when it came out(Before The Matrix) it would have
probably blown my mind.
