The setting of the GITS movie feels like a Hong Kong that is only starting to 
"grow up".  Post-dystopian is one way I've heard it described.  The buildings 
are still old, there's graffiti everywhere.  You can see the rust stains 
running down the walls etc.  The new movie looks too sterile.  Also don't like 
this whole "who am i" plot device because one of the things I've always liked 
about the Major was that they didn't really go into that too much, and she 
doesn't really GAF either.  She just goes out and catches the bad guys.  The 
rest of Section 9 are far more philosophical and reflective than the Major.

Overall, GITS:SAC has a better story.  But like with many classics, GITS is 
better in terms of it's production value compared to what was available at the 
time.  I doubt we'll ever see a good 1080p+ version of it soon.

Went into this expecting nothing.  Came out amazed.  Loved this movie and 
pretty much everything Satoshi Kon made afterwards.



It had the same similarities between itself made and the Black Swan movie.  
With some scenes being "copied" frame for frame apparently etc.

Very similar themes and setting with performance pressure in show business etc.



Cant comment on the details since I havent actually watched Black Swan.



I recommend Perfect Blue to anybody who hasnt seen it.

Also I dont give Gits 1 a meh...  I liked and and thought it was good.  Its 
just that I was prepared at the time to get my mind blown due to hype and 
people recommending it everywhere.

Was expecting 10 going out.  Felt like an 8 going out.



If I watched 7+ years earlier when it came out(Before The Matrix) it would have 
probably blown my mind.

Ive never read the Manga.



I personally was never that impressed by the original GITS movie...  but thats 
probably because I only watched it years later.  The concepts/ideas werent new 
to me anymore.  That it was hyped till the end of the earth.

Was expecting to get my mind blown...  got a good movie instead.



Was somewhere between 2002-2004 ish.  Only started watching anime-related stuff 
2002 and after.



I prefer the 1st season of Stand Alone Complex.



The gits anime seem to be doing their own things each iteration either way.  
(Still need to watch Arise myself)

Dont mind the movie doing things differently.  Hopefully different doesnt turn 
into stupid/bad...  unfortunately with Hollywood that is pretty big possibility.

The thing about GITS that many people don't realise is that the anime takes 
liberties.  It's darker than the original manga.  I don't know if this movie is 
going to be based on the movie, manga, or it's own adaptation.  I can't say I 
liked what I saw in the trailer if I compare it to the movie, but maybe I'll be 
pleasantly surprised.  The original movie is in some ways better than the manga 
after all.
