I also wish they would stop pushing out the next "ripley".
Ripley became ripley naturally. Because the original script for Alien was
unisex. And she developed to become the iconic figure over a few films. Not in
the first. The first film she was just the survivor like most slasher flick
heroine/hero.
But it's clear they keep trying to make the next ripley in 1 movie and fails.
And as a side effect of trying to create the next ripley. Every other
characters are dumb as a bag of rocks. Oram in Alien Covenant is the best
example of this.
I personally find the medbay sequence great because those character reacted to
the situation kinda realistically. And Faris kinda took the Ellen Ripley mantle
for a second. But that was a wasted attempt...

Prometheus wasn't perfect, but there were some things that worked which Scott
could easily have expanded on in Prometheus 2. Sadly, we'll never get to see it.

Also it seems like Ridley Scott is trying to push the original ideas of Alien
1. Prometheus was partially what Alien 1 was suppose to be about. But not all
of his ideas came through (there's one in the deleted scene where the infected
guy who killed everyone arrived infront of prometheus in a box shape...an old
idea which they want the xenomorph to do in alien 1 when it sneaks up behind
Lambert)
And Alien Covenant has certain ideas which the original script from Prometheus
didn't get to do (Beluga Xeno, spores, etc)

This analysis lends credence to my previous assumption that Ridley Scott made
Alien: Covenant to essentially shit on the Alien fanbase because of how poorly
Prometheus was received. Scott had a clear direction in mind with Prometheus
which dealt with a number of high-level elements that were not immediately
discernible by laymen. Prometheus 2 would undoubtedly have gone a similar
route. Of particular interest to me is that the most fascinating theme of
Alien: Covenant builds on what was introduced in Prometheus and is easily the
most enjoyable aspect of the entire film (the rest is mostly forgettable
rubbish).
