During my brief stint as an online teacher, we were expected to smile for
each of our 45min/1hr sessions. You couldn't let up; the students would
pick up on it and give you a bad rating *lol*. We were only allowed a 10/15
min break in between sessions. I can attest to the fact that
excessive/prolonged smiling does take its toll. The muscle aches and
headaches experienced by those patients is all too familiar – smiling for
extended periods of time places tremendous strain on one's cheek muscles.
Can't say I've ever experienced depression as a result of it, though. If
anything, it had the opposite effect.
