Yup, in this meta you must win the first game with your strongest
character to ensure passage.
In the Grand finals Lumi lost the first match with Sonya against
his Kung Jin which gave Keegan the advantage through out the set.
So it was,
Match 1 Sonya (loss)vs Kung Jin (won)
Match 2 Sonya (won)vs Sub-zero (loss)

Not really, you are guaranteed to fight her twice because the loser
can still pick the same character.
The rule only applies if you win the character.
So in a first to 2 you can play with your main twice, win the
first, lose the second match with a secondary then go back to your
main and
win the last match.
A completely unnecessary meta game added, either way you need to
have 2 to 3 very strong characters.
