:(

Sadly we are all still at scrub level in this game. Chip is not the kind of
character that works well in a scrub environment.

Input vs Reward with chars like chip is not in his favor... where as other
chars can get stupid rewards for relatively low input.
Plus in our scrub state we all make allot of mistakes... and chip gets hurt so
much worse than the rest.
So one keeps working but the results dont scale properly.

Elphelt is probably some part of that problem since she is on the other end of
the spectrum. Big reward with low effort and grenade covers her mistakes.

If its any consolation your chip has definitely improved. I cant play the same
as I used to and need to be way more careful etc.

The patch should alleviate some of the issues. Atleast with elphelt since she
is definitely getting weaker and grenade will no longer be covering her
mistakes.

I dunno, last time I checked, Xrd was still being played every Saturday. We
usually have a decent amount of people playing the game at any given time and
the number of players is mostly consistent unless someone can't make it.
There's nothing wrong with SF being played on stream if there are enough
players for it. I may not care all that much for SF these days (because of how
long I've played the game for) but I'm not opposed to it being played or
streamed, and I will play too if need be. The same applies to any other
fighting game that is played at our sessions. It's always dependent on the
level of support. We're a 'fighting game' community, not an 'Xrd' or 'SF' or
'Tekken' or 'KOF' community. I think we lose sight of that sometimes. I know we
jokingly take jabs at each others' fighting game interests from time to time,
but it should never go beyond that or we will very quickly find ourselves
divided and without a scene.
Regarding Xrd, some time ago Paas asked everyone how they felt about the game.
My response at the time was positive. I was learning how to play my character;
learning how the system mechanics function, etc. It was a fun experience.
Now that I've had some time to play the game extensively against good comp,
with a far better grasp of my character and the system mechanics, I can
honestly say the following.
I do not enjoy playing the game.
It would be easy for me to blame the game for my lack of enjoyment, but that
would be unfair and untrue. Truth be told, I can't really fault the system
(except Danger Time). I love how the defensive mechanics function and how they
do not completely nullify offense, even aiding one offensively at times. I love
how the game is offense-orientated and that blockstrings actually function as
intended (no mashing out). I also like my main, Chipp, and the plethora of
options available to him in terms of mobility, setups and mixups.
So, what some may be asking then is, "If you like all of the above, why don't
you enjoy playing the game?". Well, I've invested quite a bit of time in the
game (as has everyone else), and I haven't gotten the results I want. My aim in
any fighting game is never 'to be the best' but to go toe to toe with anyone in
the group and perhaps win here or there. In Xrd, I don't feel like I can go toe
to toe with anyone, despite time put in. It has nothing to do with the game.
Everyone else knows what they're doing with their characters and have a decent
grasp of how to 'play' the game. I don't think I'm on the same mental
wavelength as everyone else in that respect. Long story short, I don't think I
play the game well enough to get the results I want. Other players in the group
are better and I can respect that. But if I'm not even winning a game in a FT3
set after several sessions' worth of play, then it should make sense why I
don't enjoy playing Xrd.
The other reason, and perhaps the most important one, is that the game really
makes me angry. I've played many fighting games over the years and Xrd is the
only one that really pushes me over the edge to the point that I'm angry for
the rest of the session. It happened this past Saturday. I didn't feel like
talking to anyone. I kept losing and I didn't feel like playing anymore. I just
played because people asked me to. Losing in other games doesn't affect me
nearly as badly as losing in Xrd. I have no idea why. That's just the way it is.
The problem with this is that, despite it being funny to people, it affects me
on an emotional level that, in turn, affects how I interact with other people
at the session. I'm not saying that I'm upset at someone for beating me;
everyone knows me well enough to know that I'm not that guy. I'm saying that
losing in Xrd upsets me to the extent that I don't feel like talking to anyone.
Personally, I'd much rather have a good time playing a game and interacting
with people than not doing that and being upset all the time.
Does this mean that I will stop playing Xrd? Nope. I'll play it because the
game is worthy of support and there are enough people playing it to ensure that
it stays alive. I probably won't make midweek sessions anymore though, as,
quite frankly, I'm tired of being a punching bag. No one learns anything about
my character from playing me other than "If the character gets hit, the
round/game/match is over". My character is not so problematic that people need
me to be at a midweek session to grind out the matchup. Everyone already knows
how to fight Chipp. I'd rather suggest that if there is a problematic matchup,
that the midweek session be used for such purposes. So, I'm stating for the
record that I will not attend midweek sessions anymore.
My apologies in advance, Manase.
