Both my sisters fall into category 2 lol...

They love and have it all over the place, usually when on special or all you
can eat type stuff.
Took them to Willoughby's and they loved it but they dont reckon the increase
in price is justified

Makes me sad

:(

It also just depends on the person and the places they frequent. I think there
are 3 types of people who eat sushi here in CPT:
1. Those who eat it just because it's sushi and it's "cool". These guys can't
tell the difference between good and bad sushi.

2. Those who eat it for the taste but don't usually have the good stuff (eat
from fusion restaurants, Beluga, CTFM etc), so they don't know what good sushi
tastes like
3. Those who only eat from the handful of places with a good rep. They can
tell good from bad.

People in category 1 won't be able to tell the difference in taste because they
don't really eat sushi for the taste.

Category 2 will probably think the sushi in Japan is amazing.

Category 3 will probably think Japanese sushi is really good, but more in the
sense that every place sells "good" sushi, rather than any particular dish
being outstanding

I rather enjoyed their curry and ramen.

Would love to give the sushi there a go at some point...

But from feedback ive heard nothing blew their minds. They think it was good
but you can get good sushi here aswell.

Too me it looks bland... but I also think people who can eat a steak without
sauce are nuts.

Just cant stomach such large pieces of meat without something added to it.

*lol* I thought it was top notch. That said, I wouldn't necessarily say it was
vastly superior to our local offerings, but taste is subjective.

You are the first person I have met then who thinks that...

While I havent personally been to japan everyone else I know who went came back
generally un-impressed with regards to sushi over there.

Other than that it just looks uninteristing/boring/bland in general compared to
what we have on offer here imo...

No idea if any of the places ive been to had proper chefs. Doesnt matter if it
tastes good.

Wow, you got a maki roll up your butt about this stuff or something?

I was recommending the other place because it actually has a sushi chef, not
some random fish chef who knows how to roll salmon roses.
As for actual Japanese sushi, I’d say it is massively better than the stuff we
get here. I dunno, that’s just based on the sushi that I ate in Japan.

BTW Tzeitel, if you’re looking for a proper sushi place sometime, I’d also
recommend Minato’s -

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g312659-d1118597-Reviews-Minato-Cape_Town_Central_Western_Cape.html

The food is excellent, but the service is a little...odd. The waitress (who I
think is the chef’s wife) told us that we didn’t know
what we were doing with the orders and that she’d just bring whatever the chef
decided to make.

I think you might be better off with
http://www.capetownmagazine.com/takumi. Well, better decor anyway.

I dunno if there are any other places in Cape Town where you can actually get a
real sushi chef doing the stuff.
