Yeah, for new players it's almost impossible to teach them tekken...needs a 
bloody miracle...because if you look at players who have 0 i idea what the game 
is...most of the time they're doing 2 things...dick punch and crouching 
kick...because the idea of df and db doesn't register...forget about 
ws...someone who has basic knowledge of fames will be doing dick punch, 
crouching kick, F+jab F+kick F+1,2 jabs...because forward means attack by

Yeah but making hard combos your staple is another story. Means even if you 
accidentally launch them, you don't go to you half wit combos...eg. landing a 
df+2 on an airborne opponent...or Stance cancelling TA like Jaycee's 3~b~f 
1+2,4,bf+1+2
 instead of doing her belly bump...with practice ANY combos become easy. And it 
took my forever to do Jaycee's 3~b~f thing...not 5min. If you think it takes 
only 5 min to do a combo...do Dragunov's F+3~CDc, db+3 cc d+2 ws 4 d+4,4 (or 
d+413 if you ss the right
 way...not many people notice this) or even his f+443 jab ff+2 at least 
90%...or Anna's stupid df+2 qcf+1 jab qcf+1 f+3~cat~df 2,1...can't seem to land 
her qcf+2,1 at the end for some odd reason.








 



I'm talking about combos for new players...if you have 0 knowledge of the 
game...90% of the people won't even know how to pull off a df+1 or a WS 
move...i've tried teaching new people the game and i find it much easier to 
teach them 2d
 games than tekken...



 



But yes TTT2 combos are easy because of TA. It's because Harada want the game 
to appeal to new players. Imagine TA doesn't have that weird slow motion bound 
thing going...you'll never hit a combo...And even with "easy" combos...i still
 see people dropping combos or doing it wrong (eg. too many hits)



 



Things are pretty piss easy when you do things in practice mode and practicing 
combos...but landing a launcher is another story when most launchers are unsafe 
(or very bad on block leading you to play defensively)

It's easier to get the basics of a 2D fighter down, but mastering something 
like SF, Mahvel or KOF is no easy feat.


 



I find wavedashing easier than plinkdashing as an example.



 



Similarly, I find staple bnbs easier in TTT than I do in 2D fighters.

When namco dumb downed the game/cut characters for T4...the lost ALL the 
hardcore players ...so that was clearly not the way to go. Actually it's the 
other way round. Tekken is
 losing casual players but hardcore players are still playing and enjoying the 
game. Because with Tag partners, they get to experiment with other characters. 
Once they mastered the characters they play, they just partner their mains with 
other stuff to have
 fun. More hardcore players are appearing in the korean scene. The korean 
players who were popular in BR but isn't present now are either grown up and 
has to work now or they're in the army hahaha BR some of them just stop playing 
because they didn't enjoy
 it as much. Also they love the tagging mechanic because they mastered that 
long time ago in TTT1.

SC5 needs to be popular lol

They did a amazing job with that game imo.  Think its the right balance, not 
too many characters, not too many moves etc.  Much easier than tekken to get 
into.

You really think the complete failure of a game (TTT2 is dead in the West) is 
simply the result of nerfing one character?







 

I have no idea what Namco could do to save the Tekken series. They’re losing 
the hardcore players and the game’s learning curve means that you’re not 
getting enough new players
 in either. Maybe they just need to reboot the series and make some massive 
changes. The last time they did something like that was T4, and while I loved 
the game, it wasn’t exactly loved either.

• Super Smash Bros. Melee (a spot is reserved for Melee but Nintendo must 
approve first. Discussions currently taking place)



Additional notes:



• Mr. Wizard stated that after EVO 2013, Tekken has dropped off a bit. With 
this year being the game's 20th anniversary, the EVO team didn't want to risk 
having a new version of Tekken be released, while an outdated version is on the 
game line up, so the franchise
 was omitted this year.



• Instead of having designated Road to EVO events, major tournaments with a 
certain amount of entrants will qualify for seeding points. Tournament 
organizers of majors events will have to submit results to the EVO team. Mr. 
Wizard mentioned that the system
 is still being worked out. These results will only apply for games on the EVO 
line up.



• This year is the 20th anniversary of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. Tournament 
of Legends will be back this year, and EVO will also be holding the 3v3, single 
elimination tournament, X-Mania US, the national Super Turbo event from Japan.









• Exhibition matches aren't currently scheduled, but will be fit into the line 
up if they can get set up. Combo videos will return if the community makes them.




• If Kokonoe were to stay the way she is now in Blazblue Chrono Phantasma, she 
would be banned at EVO. She will be allowed however, as a patch to balance her 
is incoming.




• Developer panels will be returning this year. 



• Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be 3 out of 5, as long as EVO doesn't have 
double the entrants as last year. Other games getting 3 out of 5 in top 8 will 
be dependent on how each game plays out.




• Bring Your Own Console will be back this year, and there will be designated 
areas for players who want to run side tournaments.
