Well it's been a technologically challenging summer with my primary pc
crashing July 1. I thought I had lost some irreplaceable archives of my RAIN
(Radio Amateur Information Network) podcasts going back to 1987. Fortunately
they were able to be retrieved from the fried hard drive when it was all
said and done. Yes, I have learned a terribly important lesson to have
off-premises backups, both for my RAIN archives as well as my MP3 music
library that includes more than 229,000 music files. Heck I've had to take
out a Dropbox Business plan ($9.95 a month)to back up my music library as
its storage now is just short of one terabyte.
In the meantime I have replaced my primary box along with my backup box with
Intel 7 and Intel 5 respectively. My thought at the time back in mid-July
was to update my Windows experience to 10. I struggled for a month with 10,
spending more hours than I care to mention seeking help from the Microsoft
Disability Answer Desk. The folks in their Seattle and Philippines offices
were supremely patient trying to get my Windows 10 to start menu search box
to search my internal music library and not the Internet for titles I was
looking for. After two weeks the Disability Desk decided that I needed an
updated install of Windows 10;my PC was worse at that point! They were
unable to reinstall 10 remotely! So two weeks ago my pc guru, Tom Nelson,
called me from his nearby computer shop, Byte Me Computers, and voiced a
thought I was kicking around.to dump Windows 10 and go back to 7.
Fortunately he had come into the possession of a handful of new Seven
licenses. Less than a week later I had both my primary and backup boxes
humming along on Windows 7. Since Microsoft has announced it will support
Seven until 2020, there frankly is no rush to move to 10, especially if I
don't want Microsoft keeping track of my computer activities unobtrusively.
So that's the latest with my pc world (not copyright infringement intended)
