RTD hires three new clinicians to assist customers experiencing mental health
issues
RTD’s Transit Police Department discovered years earlier than most agencies
that there are certain situations that you cannot “arrest” your way out of.
That’s why the agency has hired three new mental health clinicians, who join
Danielle Jones, a certified psychiatric rehabilitation practitioner with the
Mental Health Center of Denver (MHCD).

Completing RTD’s Northwest Rail Line will take partnership, money
The Northwest Rail Line has been a big topic of conversation lately. While RTD
has made substantial progress in delivering the projects included in the
multibillion-dollar FasTracks program to expand transit across the Denver metro
region, the Northwest Rail Line and other projects remain incomplete and
unfunded.

'365 days a year, we're thinking about snow'
Snowstorms are a reality for those of us who make our home in Colorado, and
that includes accessing the places that are essential during inclement weather.
Making our commutes a nonissue is a massive crew of employees whom RTD
customers seldom see – hundreds of people who mobilize when the weather calls
for it and fan out across the eight counties that constitute the agency’s
2,342-square-mile service district.

A sweet Valentine’s Day project: honoring RTD and other frontline workers
From preschool through fifth grade, each group of students at Second Creek
Elementary School in Commerce City chose different types of frontline workers
on which they would focus. The 3- to 5-year-olds in Nicole Griffin’s class
picked firefighters, police officers – and RTD bus drivers.

Operator of the month
Each month we highlight operators and other employees for their exceptional
customer service. This month we recognize Anthony Rangel for helping an elderly
gentleman on the side of the road who had frostbite and needed medical
attention. Meet Anthony.

Did you know?
The term “March Madness” was coined in 1939 by Henry V. Porter, a high school
teacher and coach in Athens, Illinois. This was initially in reference to the
Illinois boys state basketball championship as a way to describe the excitement
around the tournament. The term was later adopted for the NCAA championship
held each March. Learn more.

Tip of the month
Quiet zones aren’t always quiet. Circumstances exist that require train
operators to sound their horn for safety purposes. Want to learn more? Join RTD
at one of three virtual meetings about quiet zones on our commuter rail lines.
