Surge in COVID-19 cases, worker shortage affecting RTD service
RTD is doing its best to maintain service within existing resource constraints.
The prevalence of the omicron variant has brought the number of new coronavirus
cases and the percentage of positive tests to their highest points since the
start of the pandemic. This reality is coupled with existing vacancies for
frontline positions that include bus and rail operators, technicians and
mechanics. RTD customers can stay updated on any unforeseen service changes by
signing up for Service Alerts. |

Enhanced Service Alerts system includes text notifications
Customers have been asking for a higher degree of granularity with their
notifications for years, and this new system provides for that – down to the
direction of travel and specific stops. Individuals can choose to receive
messages by email, text or both. A customer panel that tested a beta version of
the system last year said they found the process to be easy to navigate,
intuitive and an improvement over the prior system. Learn more and sign up. |

Meet Alton Reynolds: ‘When you’re able to help somebody, that’s satisfying,
period’
If RTD’s outreach coordinator for individuals experiencing homelessness looks
familiar to customers, that’s because they may have seen him before: on Route
15, on the 16, the 0, the 42. For the past five years, Alton L. Reynolds Jr.
has shared his warm countenance and calm demeanor with the public while working
as a bus operator. He brings more than 20 years of counseling experience to his
new role, which has Reynolds working directly with unhoused individuals and
liaising with the community organizations that serve them. Meet Alton. |

Board of Directors enacts new structure to its committees
The changes establish four standing committees and a separate, independent
audit committee. In addition, public commentary can now be provided at and
before committee meetings, provided such comments are relevant to the topics in
the published meeting agendas for the current and immediately preceding month.

For the safety of all, masks remain required on public transit
Even though the mask mandate in the city and county of Denver will expire on
Thursday, face coverings must be worn while on RTD vehicles and agency property
– including while outside – in accordance with the federal mandate for public
transportation, extended through March 18. Let’s continue to keep everyone safe
by wearing a mask, one of the simplest ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
More details about how RTD has worked to protect employees and customers during
the pandemic are on the COVID-19 webpage. |
