Starting today: mobilization in preparation for the 16th Street Mall
improvement project, MallRide detours
Starting today and extending through late 2024, Denver will work to improve
the 16th Street Mall. The project, the first major upgrade to the Mall in
nearly 40 years, will include a new granite paver system that honors the iconic
original design, move transit lanes to the center of each block, add more trees
and expand sidewalks. The changes will improve safety and mobility, address
deteriorating infrastructure and create more opportunities for people to enjoy
the Mall as a vibrant community gathering place. Learn more. |

Next steps for Reimagine RTD
RTD last month concluded the comment period for the draft System Optimization
Plan (SOP), which includes recommendations for service redesign and development
through 2027. The plan will guide RTD as it works to adapt to challenges posed
by the coronavirus pandemic and changes in commuting behavior. The goals of the
draft SOP include increasing ridership on RTD services; ensuring that equity
populations continue to be well served by transit; increasing service
performance across bus and rail routes; addressing changing demands in the
travel market; and improving RTD’s quality of service. Read more.

Operator of the month
Each month, operators and other employees are highlighted for their exceptional
customer service. This month, RTD recognizes bus operator Craig Vasbinder, who
helped clear bystanders from an area along the 16th Street Mall where an
individual was threatening them, and waved down Denver Police officers to
provide assistance. Meet Craig.

Tip of the month
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, a time to reflect on the need to
remain focused while behind the wheel. More than 700 injury crashes each day in
the United States involve distracted driving, according to the National Safety
Council (NSC). Examples of distracted behaviors include talking or texting on a
phone, eating or drinking, applying makeup, reading, watching a video or
programming a navigational system. Click here to take the NSC’s pledge to drive
free of distractions.
