Title: Focus preposing and its role in Bantu inversion, inverted copular
sentences and contrastive ellipsis
Abstract: The existence of a dedicated VP-peripheral FocusP in UG remains moot
outside cartographic circles. I bring syntactic evidence to bear in its favor
and illustrate the role of movement to a low focus position in the computations
that underlie Bantu inversion, inverted copular sentences and contrastive
ellipsis.
