Hello Gardeners!
We hope your gardens are happily growing along! Here are a few things we
want you to know about.
*Garden Open House August 4, 5:30-7:30*: we are participating in the
Vermont Community Garden Network's first ever garden tour! The public and
gardeners from other community gardens will be invited to stop by to learn
from, and be inspired by, our beautiful garden. Ours is the first of the
season and will coincide with Wednesday Night Live. Fellow gardener Brian
Norder will be doing a presentation on different ways to preserve your
harvest! We hope you'll consider joining us in the garden for this event!
*Garden Duster available*: Dan purchased a new garden tool that you will
find in the shed- it's a duster used for applying products like diatomaceous
earth directly to the affected area with less mess.
*Tip for path maintenance*: the paths between our plots are shared
community space. Who is responsible for keeping them clear? Tradition has
it that each gardener is responsible for the path on the south and west
sides of their plot. The south side is toward RK Miles and the west side is
toward the back of the garden.
*Mid-summer garden tasks:* on last Saturday's WDEV garden program, Peter
Burke recommended the following:
- plant more lettuce and radishes for a continuous salad
- keep up with weeds! Weed before they go to seed!
- thin carrots, beets, and lettuce with scissors
- prune tomatoes to increase air flow, speed up ripening, and keep
plants healthier
- keep an eye out for pests!
