Charles,
You are correct in that sending an email will get it posted to the Cochise Linux User Group mailing list, however the correct way is not to reply to an email that someone has sent to the mailing list but to start your own thread which can be done by addressing it directly to cochiselinux@xxxxxxxxxxxxx.  That will keep all of the information on your problem and possible solutions under the same thread and not under a thread called "I'm harvesting credit card numbers and passwords from your site.  Here's how."  That will of course make it easier for others to find in the future who may be researching a similar problem.
There are numerous sites that will inform you how to create the bootable USB flash drive after you have downloaded the Ubuntu 16.04 ISO.  Once it is created you must use it to boot from on your MacBook which means that you have to power up the MacBook with it inserted and hold down the options button while it is booting.  That should get you to the boot selection process where you will select the bootable USB stick.  I am not sure what you were trying to do with the commands that you listed but they will not install Ubuntu on your MacBook.

Help needed to create an install usb or dvd.
I am under the impression that by sending you an email it gets posted on your linux users group...
I've been trying to create an ubuntu install disc for my older mac book pro (running Mavericks) and have spent many hours searching online for how to do it. Nothing has worked!  Here are a few of the terminal codes and the error messages that I get: I even used Unetbootin which creates the usb but the mac won't mount it!

Can anyone tell me how to create an install usb or DVD for mac, pretty please. Thanks Charles
