This is definitely a conference-worthy topic. Hopefully in Chicago, someone
could present a brief summary of the currently known options, and what kind of
features to look for in identifying additional insurance options in the future.

Of course, Miranda. I was writing my email just as yours was coming
in so I didn't see it.
I just wanted to be sure before sending the info but if other
coaches want to check it out, here it is. My agent's info:
Niko Foltys
Junior Producer | Allied Health
niko.foltys@xxxxxxxxxxxx mailto:niko.foltys@xxxxxxxxxxxx
312-690-4495
I believe the underwriting agency is K&K. You might be able to
access an application with this but he'll send it to you anyway:

Adele, I am not going to have time before the conference to look
into any other insurance companies. So if you could share on the list
which company it is would be very helpful to the other coaches.

Perfect timing. I just wrote to 1Touch to ask what they came up
with. Miranda mentioned that they were looking into it and hoped to have
more info by conference time. I briefly checked the one they currently use
for single events:
Event Insurance - Starting at $66.33 - TheEventHelper.com
https://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0LEVjBJMWlZVPIAj0APxQt.;_ylu=X3oDMTBydDI5cXVuBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwM2BHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--/RV=2/RE=1500094922/RO=10/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.theeventhelper.com%2f/RK=1/RS=.O0t5zVwZaRHYIG21xM2fpnKAb8-
BUT, even better I found one for independent contractors teaching
self-defense/martial arts for a yearly rate (about $360). I will pursue the
yearly one if I don't hear of something better from someone on this list or
Miranda or Stephen. If I end up with the $360 one for unlimited classes,
I'll be glad to fwd the name of the agent to save you the legwork. It took
me hours on the phone - not fun! I'd rather wait until I know it's the best
thing around before doing that. It may have to be after the conference
until I gather all the info.

Hi Brad,
I looked into a basic liability policy, and the pricing was
out of my range. It is imperative to get the release signed as some form
of protection. Another option of protection is to establish an llc to
separate you as an individual from the self-defense business. It must be
a ligit business but it would protect you from personal financial ruin.
I would consult an attorney about the specific laws in your state.

However, for a freelance coach holding classes in a
public library, or community or private room situation… not that we’d
expect or push it, but insurance against injury or event would be
prudent.
I’d contacted my insurance person. Explained what the
coaching was about. She is still looking and asked if I could find out
what, if anything, other coaches are doing for insurance.
Do any of you have it? And any specifics you’d be
willing to share.
Thanks.
