Hi Alissa,
I have seen these but a great reminder that they exist and can really help with
these conversations! I guess this listserv really does work. :)
Thanks!

Hi Gordana,
You may have already seen these, but there are also these resources available
through BCCampus that might help build a case around evaluating the quality of
OER vs publisher materials. There is a comprehensive evaluation rubric
available and there are several OER evaluation tools for a variety of different
roles depending on the view/purpose of the evaluator. The evaluation rubric is
focused on the quality of OER repositories, but from the look of it, most of
the criteria are also applicable to single or multiple OERs. I'm assuming,
since it's from BCCampus, it's an OER itself so if some of the criteria don't
fit for the context, it can likely be modified to suit your needs. Hope it
helps!

Hi Chris,
Thanks for sharing these with the list! Congrats to your faculty member. I will
definitely share this with the NC faculty teaching French.
I think I will have to dive deeper into the discussion of why OER materials are
seen to be of lower quality than commercially published texts. There's
definitely some reluctance there that I'm not quite able to figure out.
Wish me luck!
Thanks!

Hi Gordana,
At Conestoga, we have a faculty member who has produced her own French and
Spanish language Learning OERs (Spanish is not yet published, but the French
one is
here.<https://can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fopenlibrary.ecampusontario.ca%2Fcatalogue%2Fitem%2F%3Fid%3D31d23db6-5741-408d-a4cb-100f9be0d7d2&data=04%7C01%7CAlissa.Bigelow%40GeorgianCollege.ca%7Cc0a3ad87d8ff47abf36108d93bea0e26%7Cda9a94b6468149bcbd7cbab9eac0ad3c%7C0%7C0%7C637606699730072781%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=1a%2B2rU%2Fuz7grSqQbe9YSlwUm7jGXp4%2FWp33CI3CT0ys%3D&reserved=0>)
Not quite the same as ESL, but the principle is similar. They are not entire
textbooks, but more in the style of a workbook. We're working on H5P
interactives for the next iterations, as wel.
She and her colleagues that teach introductory French courses find it to be an
adequate replacement of the bulkier commercial textbook they previously used.
It's also been recognized by COERLL, which I'm told is one of the biggest open
language centres in NA.

Hi everyone,
Hope you are all keeping well and enjoying the warm weather!
I have posted this same request on a number of other OER lists and this may be
a repeat for some of you. I am working with our International dept on adopting
ESL OER for our programs. Unfortunately, I've hit a real roadblock regarding
the perception of quality. The person I've been discussing this with believes
that individuals creating OER content cannot compete with the publishers and
their content creators. I would like to refute this via examples of adoptions.
Do you have examples of OER use at your institutions that you would be willing
to share?
Thanks!
Gordana

Niagara College acknowledges the land on which we gather is the traditional
territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples, many of whom continue
to live and work here today. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada
Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum
agreement. Today this gathering place is home to many First Nations, Métis, and
Inuit peoples and acknowledging reminds us that our great standard of living is
directly related to the resources and friendship of Indigenous peoples.
