I, too, am delighted to open today's mail and find Karen Hartman winner
of the NCTE/SLATE Intellectual Freedom Award. Karen, I commend you for
your efforts, and I want to thank Carol Sullivan and all the CLAS
members who helped with Karen's nomination. Karen serves as an
exemplary role model for all of us who teach English.
