Hi Everyone, Just a reminder that next week is Open Access Week (Oct. 19-23, 2009). This is a great opportunity to engage your campus or community in conversation about open access journals and repositories, to heighten awareness of changing scholarly communications models, and to showcase your library's initiatives in this direction. Every bit of consciousness raising helps. If you don't have time to plan a major event, then you could create a brief webpage that highlights a few important facts (i.e. http://www.library.mun.ca/openaccess_2009.php - under creative commons licensing, so feel free to re-purpose), write a short article for a campus news publication, or distribute print brochures (i.e. CARL's brochure on the SPARC Canadian Author Addendum http://www.carl-abrc.ca/projects/author/EngBrochure.pdf). The following websites offer free resources that you can use to promote Open Access: SPARC Scholarly Communication Toolkit: http://www.acrl.ala.org/scholcomm/node/43 OA Week Website: http://www.openaccessweek.org/downloadable-resources-english/ Check the Open Access Directory wiki to see what other people in North America and around the world have planned for OA week. Be sure to add links to your own events and resources. http://oad.simmons.edu/oadwiki/Events_celebrating_Open_Access_Week Have a great week.
