Not sure what to say about streaming a Vimeo to our projectors since it’s
worked pretty much flawlessly in the past and when I checked it before the
screening it seemed okay. My only thought is that we were having temporary
internet problems which caused it to skip and stop. Don’t know what this means
for future screenings.

I’m glad to hear that the problems with being able to watch films on Vimeo in
a preferred setting have been resolved. I’m sorry to hear that “COMING
THROUGH THE RYE” did not make a more favorable impression upon you. I watched
it both at the partial screening at Railroad Square and at home without the
technical problems encountered at the group screening. It made a much better
impression on me though I felt that it was possible that better familiarity
with Catcher in the Rye could have been helpful. Has anyone else seen “COMING
THROUGH THE RYE” in its entirety and would like to offer an opinion?
My suggestion would be “BLOOD ON THE MOUNTAIN.” I think it would be helpful
to get an opinion out there. It could be that one or two opinions could be
very helpful in knowing whether we want to keep it under consideration.
No decision has been made on a meeting time for this week. Bill has a busy
week and suggested not having a meeting. Bob Stewart could meet on Wednesday,
but not on Thursday. You and Clif could make Thursday, but apparently not
Wednesday. Nancy is heading to Denmark. Abbott would be able to join us to
give us another set of eyes if we have a group screening. I originally did
suggest only Wednesday and Thursday as alternatives. After getting all the
links I added Friday as a possibility putting all three days potentially in
play for a meeting and/or screenings. So far no one has addressed their
availability on Veterans Day.
I have not yet heard anything from Alan as to whether there are any problems
with the links that would cause problems for a group screening or whether
there are any scheduling issues related to any of the three days I mentioned.
I am hoping for some additional feedback before finalizing a plan for this
week.
I’m sure there’s a fair amount of trepidation about this election. Looking
forward to it being over and hopeful of the outcome, but fearful that it
could herald something even worse. That probably covers everyone no matter
what partisan allegiances they have.

Hi, all--
I am happy to report that thanks to Daughter Dee's help, we can now watch
Vimeo movies on our television, and last night we watched "Coming Through the
Rye." Or at least part of it. Unfortunately, this movie was two thumbs down
for both Clif and me. For us, the acting was too broad and amateurish, more
appropriate for a Nickelodeon crowd than for the, ahem, very mature audience
of Cinema Exploration.
Tonight, we will sample one of the movies from the links below. Is there one
you would like us to watch first?
Tomorrow night, we will be watching with hope and horror as the election
unfolds.
Is the meeting on Wednesday or Thursday? If it's Thursday, then we can come.

As much as it might simplify some things for everyone this coming week, we
do have quite a few films to watch and quite a few other films on our list
to consider so I’m not convinced that skipping a week is a good idea. If we
do that, we would definitely need to commit to using the links to stream the
films and watch them at home. Obviously some folks may need to watch some or
all of the films that way depending on their personal schedules. I’d like to
have people address when they would be available next week to see if we can
find one or two days when we would likely have a fairly representative
turnout for screenings/meetings.
I’m not sure how it would for the meeting, but we were working on being able
to set something up so that Bill could attend a meeting remotely from home.
Bill, that might not resolve your scheduling issues, but hopefully that
would help.
Thanks,
Joel

I'm doing a vet's day tradition Thursday & Friday - push back against
"patriot" scoundrels. Will probably be too exhausted on Wednesday - unless
the results are clear early, which is looking doubtful. Anybody feel O.K.
With skipping a week? (I promise to do my homework.)

Ken has been very helpful and we now have five links with which to stream
films. We also have learned that “COMMAND AND CONTROL” does broadcast on
PBS as an “American Experience” in January and is unavailable. I have
removed this from our lists. We have four films from Abramorama. One is a
new film called “BEST WORST THING THAT EVER COULD HAVE HAPPENED...”. The
IMDb synopsis: “This film from acclaimed theater director Lonny Price
charts the journey of the original cast of Stephen Sondheim's "Merrily We
Roll Along" in the 30-plus years since the musical debuted on Broadway at
the Alvin Theatre in 1981.” I have added this to our lists. We also now
have a link for “THE ANTHROPOLOGIST.” We have also inquired about “OFF THE
RAILS.” We are waiting for a return e-mail from them.
I don’t know if we may encounter similar problems if we try to project the
streaming onto the big screen that we experienced with “COMING THROUGH THE
RYE” or not. Five films and possibly one more is quite a bit to schedule
for group screenings. Alan, can you check their suitability for a group
screening. I don’t know what else may be going on at the Square this week,
but who would be available Wednesday, Thursday, and/or Friday (There’s
almost a tradition for us to screen something on Veterans Day) mornings.
Probably the best advice would be to watch them on your own at home if you
are comfortable doing that since there are so many.
