Alan et al.:
I don’t know if you have had any luck in seeing how your Mac does with this
particular link. However, I just got off the phone with Bob Stewart. He was
wondering if his iPhone would be able to interface with your Apple TV like a
Mac laptop? He’s willing to give it a try on Monday morning if you are. Right
now, that gives us four for Monday with some other folks yet to reply.
If you haven’t yet responded about being available for a group screening of Ian
Cheney’s film “THIRTEEN WAYS” on Monday, 10/14/19 at 10:00 am at Railroad
Square, it would be helpful to hear from you. Thanks.

I was pretty sure you wouldn’t see the cancellation until this morning and I
assumed that you probably hadn’t seen my e-mail with the link yesterday either.
My laptop is a PC. I don’t know who might have a Mac. Anyone else? Is there a
way to test how it does with the Mac you have now? The film is fairly short at
68 minutes. I’m just speculating, but could the source make a difference? Could
the origination points for the streaming have different levels of power? Any
tech whizzes (Clif) want to comment on this?
As far as Monday vs Saturday, it looks like Saturday probably isn’t going to
work. Still haven’t heard back from most of the team so Monday isn’t a sure bet
either.

Sorry, I didn’t see your email until this morning.
I can try to stream THIRTEEN WAYS from the office Mac but we’ve had problems
with it in the past as I’m sure you remember. It may be our internet connection
or it may be that computer. Does anyone have a Mac laptop they can bring in
that we can connect to our AppleTV or plug into the projector?
I’m won’t be here on Saturday but Monday morning works for me.

I have to admit defeat. In the face of heavy casualties, it seems prudent to
retreat from having a meeting tomorrow/Thursday, October 10th. I did get a link
from Ian Cheney for his film “THIRTEEN WAYS” and forwarded that to Alan this
afternoon asking if he could use it to set up a group screening for us
tomorrow. So far, I have not heard back. I will be sending out another list
with some updates and thoughts about how to address some of our films and I
will also send out the link for “THIRTEEN WAYS.”
I know this is pretty short notice and there is no guarantee that Alan will be
able to get something set up for us, but who might be able to attend a
screening on Saturday morning and/or Monday morning probably at 10:00 am.
Please let me know whether you have availability for either or both or neither.
That would be helpful.
I don’t think we could show “THE IMMIGRANT,” Abbott. It is a 2013 film which
showed at Railroad Square in 2014. It has some big stars with Marion Cotillard,
Jeremy Renner, and Joaquin Phoenix. I’m pretty sure it would have been at the
Square for at least a couple of weeks. I certainly would expect a lot of the
folks that we see regularly would have seen it then. It is also available on
Prime Video for $3.99.

Abbott here. Family visiting, and a crucial possibility that workmen will
finally be able to get here tomorrow means I'm likely to miss the meeting. I'll
just say again that I am a huge fan of Icelandic films. Despite best intentions
I have not gotten to even one trailer since last week. My input is minimal, but
I'll hope to return again. I remain the voice for "Let's put up a great old
film up on the big screen". Some piece that most people are unaware of. There
is a great article in a recent N Yorker on the life and work of James Gray.
High praise for his forgotten film "The Immigrant". I'd never heard of it and
would like to see what he made. Would I be alone in that?
There's my likely input for tomorrow.

Bob:
Sorry to hear that you are not going to be able to make it to tomorrow’s
meeting. Thanks for the heads-up on “THE CAKEMAKER” being available through
Netflix. Our interest was pretty tenuous just knowing that it could be accessed
pretty cheaply through Prime Video. Now it’s a slam dunk as a goner.
Lots of people have expressed interest/intrigue about “THE SEER AND THE
UNSEEN.” There was a trailer for it with the WBUR article that Laurie
originally shared and I believe I had appended it to some of my mailings after
that. Let me know if you can’t find it and I will send it out again. The
trailer is very beautiful and certainly comes across as quite mystical.
Currently, the does not have US distribution. It is represented by a Sales
Representative called Submarine. Ken has usually wanted us to steer clear of
sales representatives that market the distribution rights of films and,
basically, act as middlemen between the production company and the actual
distributors that work with theaters and other outlets. I think it is his
experience that he tends to feel they demand high prices and are much more
difficult to negotiate with.
Pat:
Let us know if you are getting things through the listserve now. Thanks.

Thanks, Bob, for letting us know about The Cakemaker. Definitely one to scratch
of the list. Definitely agree with your assessment of The Seer and the Unseen.
One to screen, if we can.

Hello Joel and all,
My plans for this week have changed and will not be available for the Thursday
meeting.
Thanks, Laurie and Cliff for your brief thoughts on the list. Many of the films
you like are appealing to me as well. The Seer and the Unseen is very
interesting to me but not a lot to go on. The Icelandic release date was Oct 7,
2019. Maybe this will generate a trailer or more reviews.
Another note on a film from the list... The Cakemaker is currently available on
Netflix streaming :/
Cheers,
Bob
