Hi yet(i) again,
Ouch! I overlooked Joel's asking had I given up on ICEMAN. I thought an
earlier email indicated that the vote was in to abandon it. It was a film I
enjoyed. I did not feel strongly about it being included, for a variety of
reasons, among them the concern about its "Guy" aspects and the fact that it is
entirely an invention based upon an ancient corpse, clothing, a wound, etc.
Myriad story lines could be invented to get Urtzi dead up there on the
mountain. The film is well done and can provoke some thinking. A curiosity, is
the way I came to think of it. If it were to be included, I would enjoy seeing
it again for its visual richness and fast paced action.
I mentioned, in passing, two Jean Cocteau titles. They are of course
French. How many would have seen ORPHEE or LA BELLE ET LA BETE? Joel's concerns
still obtain, but these films - terrific films - might be less likely to have
been seen, and would the Frenchness be a plus - a draw?
Just wondering. VV A
P.S. ORPHEE is one of my favorite films ever. I have seen it numerous times
and would run to the Square to see it again. But It would need to be a good
print.
