We met with Shannon and the new interim Maine Film Center Project Manager
Meg Fournier this morning. I think we had a very productive meeting. Meg and
Shannon will be working to make sure that a tri-fold brochure (see
attachment for longer blurbs) promoting CINEMA EXPLORATIONS is able to be
sent out to everyone on the Railroad Square Cinema mailing list as soon as
possible. We are hoping to have guests for five our post-film discussions.
We are hoping to have filmmakers participating in our first and last films
in the series. We also discussed the possibility of involving faculty from
Colby (Anthropology Department) and Unity (Environmental Studies) Colleges
as expert discussion participants for our first film "THE ANTHROPOLOGIST".
Since three of our films are set in the Middle East we are asking Middle
East History Professor John Turner of Colby to participate. Hopefully, he
will be able to help us and/or may have recommendations for other
participants. We have decided that we would not seek to bring in a guest for
the Japanese film "AFTER THE STORM" because that film is quite long which
may limit our time for a post-film discussion and that there is no specific
expert angle that is readily apparent. The post-film discussion process is,
of course, a relatively fluid area depending on what kinds of answers we may
receive to our initial inquiries.
Bill, in regard to "DISTURBING THE PEACE" we thought that since you have
been quite active in peace movements we wondered whether you would be
interested in or have suggestions for inviting someone who would be able to
offer insight into being involved in that process? Perhaps address how
your/their experiences are similar to and/or dissimilar from the movement
that the film documents.
At this point, there does not seem to be an obvious reason for us to meet
prior to kicking off the series. If anything changes in that regard, I will
let you know. Again, thank you for all of your participation in making sure
