Just want to share with those of you who don't already know...
Goleta Slough is a fantastic spot for checking out birds! Hubs and I parked at
the easternmost end of Goleta Beach parking lot (steer toward and beyond
Beachfront restaurant) and found bird heaven! Nesting great blue herons, WHITE
pelicans, a kingfisher...over 15 species identified by two non-experts in a
matter of minutes. There's even an overlook with a sign commemorating the first
boat built and launched in Santa Barbara (by a member of the Dana family, no
less). We typically park and walk down the coast, but the tide forced us to
explore the upper section of the slough.
Even as fairly astute, local nature nerds, this spot was a revelation.
Enjoy!
