Today on the Condor Express we saw:
9am-11:30am trip:
2 gray whales (adult and calf)
700 long beaked common dolphins
12:00pm-2:30pm trip:
2 juvenile gray whales
50 long beaked common dolphins
1 mola mola
The day was 100% overcast and cool, seas were calm. On the afternoon trip, I
there were 25 Pacific black brant following a similar migration from Mexico
to Alaska as the gray whales; and 5 loons (one red-thoated and 4 Pacific)
also migrating north.
Thanks to Debbie Fedaleo as my fellow (certifying!!) naturalist, and Captain
Dave and crew Jill and Devin (I think that’s right—in a rookie move I forgot
to write down their names on my first trips as naturalist!) for a beautiful
day! Also thanks to the Dolphin Pod and our mentors Susan Lascher and Cliff
Rodrigues for a great training experience!
