6 Humpbacks for sure

Sea Lions
with a good crowd on board, we departed into what turned out to be a
spectacular day on the channel - sunny, no wind, moderate swell. Just east
of platform Gloria we sighted our first humpback, a juvenile. No special
behaviors from it or any of our other sightings.
Moving a little further offshore, we encountered a megapod of common
dolphin feeding. While watching them, sighted 3 adult humpbacks, also
feeding.
After spending some time in their midst, we proceeded toward east Anacapa,
sighting an additional two on the way. We got close to arch rock, then
proceeded around the end of the island, about a mile further offshore. We
did spot some pelicans feeding, but no additional marine life.
On the way back in, saw a raft of sea lions, and then got back into the
same megapod of dolphins. While watching them, saw several other spouts,
but there wasn't enough time to investigate.
We saw some more sea lions on the Gina buoy, and a mola mola as we started
our run for the pier.
Thanks to Captain Robert for taking the extra time to take us around
Anacapa, and to spotter Dustin and Chef Paul for an altogether fantastic
day on the water.
